Investment Thesis

The markets we target span heavy machinery, marine vessels, gemstones, music rights, and beyond. Volume is significant in each, but information is scarce, conflicted, or structurally withheld.

Try Ventures is a pricing intelligence company. We identify markets where opacity is persistent, transaction values are high, and incumbents are either conflicted or complacent. We build the data infrastructure and valuation models that intermediaries need to transact and institutions need to allocate capital.

Why Now

For decades, the calculus of building pricing intelligence in fragmented, specialised markets was unforgiving. That calculus has now shifted.

Then

Building pricing intelligence was prohibitive.

  • Data collection, domain expertise, and infrastructure required heavy investment in fragmented, specialised markets.
  • Entrenched incumbents controlled the channels and had little incentive to improve them.
  • Transactions left thin, analogue trails that resisted systematic analysis.
Now

The barriers have collapsed.

  • +Modern AI and LLMs extract structured pricing signals from chaotic sources at a fraction of previous cost.
  • +Intermediaries across most sectors are now digitised enough to leave meaningful data trails.
  • +Small, focused teams can build specialised intelligence products that outperform legacy providers.

We intend to act on that shift, systematically, across multiple markets.

Section 03

How We Win

Our advantage is a repeatable three-party model. We arm the intermediary closest to the transaction, earn the data they generate, and sell the resulting intelligence upstream to the institutions that need it most.

01
Intermediary
Gets a better tool.

The dealer, broker, surveyor, or specialist closest to the transaction adopts our valuation model.

02
Try Ventures
Earns ground-truth data.

In return for utility, we receive transactional signal no scraper or incumbent can replicate.

03
Institution
Gets a better model.

Once our intelligence outperforms existing benchmarks, we sell it upstream to insurers, lenders, and asset managers.

Each market we illuminate strengthens our ability to illuminate the next. Our advantage compounds through methodology, infrastructure, and experience, not domain expertise alone.

How We Work

We validate before we build. Before committing resources to any market, we go directly to the practitioners who operate within it and test demand against reality. Markets that respond, we pursue. Markets that don't, we exit quickly.

Every venture is a hypothesis until the market confirms it. That discipline is the firm's founding principle and the reason we are called Try Ventures.

Our Principles

Founding Principle
Validate before you build.

Every venture is a hypothesis until the market confirms it.

Operating Principles
  1. 01
    Operate where intelligence is scarce.

We target markets where pricing opacity is persistent and the cost of poor information is high.

  2. 02
    Arm the intermediary.

The specialist closest to the transaction is our entry point, our data source, and our first customer.

  3. 03
    Data over opinion.

No expert, no consultant, no partner replaces a real demand signal.

  4. 04
    Collaboration earns its place.

We build with focus and independence. The right partners find us through the work.
